Unregulated export of raw materials
Enforce quality standards on exported grain
Implementation is underway.
Where this stands
Processing and storage capacity has been built; enforcement of export grain quality is the outstanding action.
Why this reform was agreed
Export of raw grain from the Ugandan market is largely unregulated, affecting the volume available to support domestic feed and food processing.
Ongoing and planned interventions
Government has constructed eleven agro-processing and storage facilities to increase opportunities for value addition and access to high-value markets: Rwimi Rice and Gatyanga Coffee in Bunyangabu; Kigoyera and Kasina Maize in Kyenjojo; Itojo Maize and Rice and Nombe Coffee in Ntoroko; Apala Oil Seed in Alebtong; Ocorimongin Rice in Katakwi; Kajamaka Rice in Kumi; and Kikwata Coffee and Kiwoko Maize in Nakaseke.
