Through the World Bank-financed GROW Project, Shs 133.14 billion in soft loans has been extended to 6,584 women-owned businesses to support their transition from informality. This complements Shs 153.5 billion previously disbursed under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP), which has benefited 244,805 women.
A note on UWEP
UWEP is GROW's predecessor. Its figures are recorded here because they are part of the public account of what has been spent, but it is not listed as a financing scheme in its own right: it has no open intake, and a matcher that shortlists a closed programme sends applicants to a door that does not open.
More than lending
GROW also provides enterprise development services — technical, life-skills and digital training, business advisory, registration and certification support, placements and market linkages — listed separately under GROW enterprise development services.
