Government has put in place a range of financing instruments to lower the cost of capital and de-risk lending to priority sectors. They are delivered through participating commercial banks, development finance institutions and specialised funds — which is why most businesses never find them: the money is real, but it is scattered across the institutions that administer it.
What is on offer
- Concessional credit — the Agricultural Credit Facility for agriculture, agro-processing and grain trade, and Uganda Development Bank financing for manufacturing, agribusiness, tourism and infrastructure.
- Guarantees and risk sharing — credit guarantee arrangements that let banks lend to MSMEs without conventional collateral, and the Uganda Agricultural Insurance Scheme against production risk.
- Targeted windows — GROW for women-led enterprises, INVITE for industrial transformation and employment, and Emyooga for organised groups and associations.
- Grassroots finance — Parish Development Model revolving funds and the Microfinance Support Centre, taking credit to enterprises outside the reach of commercial banking.
Find the ones you qualify for
Terms, interest rates, collateral requirements and eligibility differ scheme by scheme. The portal's financing register records each scheme's provider, purpose, enterprise size, beneficiary group and how to apply, and matches your business profile against them — rather than leaving you to call each institution in turn.
Once you have identified a scheme, approach the participating financial institution or administering agency with a viable business plan and the documentation the scheme requires.
