Medium priority
Status confirmed 1 January 2026Implementation is underway.
Where this stands
Government farm production is running; wider promotion of local inputs in commercial feed milling is the outstanding action.
Why this reform was agreed
A competitive animal feeds industry needs to be built on locally available raw materials — maize, soybeans, sunflower, cottonseed, cassava, sweet potatoes and fish meal — to produce high-quality, affordable compounded feed for the poultry, piggery and dairy industries.
Ongoing and planned interventions
Mass animal feed production and processing on government farms and ranches supplies hay, silage and compounded feeds to livestock farmers across the country.
